Homeowners sometimes identify with the architectural history of their homes as strongly as they do their own ancestry.
How to know for sure if a house is a Craftsman, Arts and Crafts bungalow or Victorian?
On Saturday, experts from the nonprofit historic preservation group Pasadena Heritagewill offer help at a seminar titled “How to Identify, Research and Document Your Historic Property” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Altadena Community Church.
The seminar will be divided into two parts, beginning with “What Style Is It?” led by Susan N. Mossman, executive director of Pasadena Heritage. Mossman will present an overview of common architectural styles found in Pasadena and beyond and share examples of Victorian, Craftsman, Revival and midcentury designs.
Architectural historian and archivist Tim Gregory and photographer Dennis Hill will then discuss “Discovering History and Documenting It in Photos.” The presentation will cover how to research the history of your property, find its original building permit, uncover changes made to it and learn who designed, built and lived in it over the years, as well as how to photograph your home.
Tickets, available online, are $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers.
